This original Liebig trade card series, listed as Sanguinetti no. 861, was issued in 1906 under the title Pompéi autrefois et aujourd'hui (Pompeii Then and Now).

The six colourful illustrations depict the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, comparing its appearance in Roman times with the archaeological remains visible at the beginning of the 20th century.

The scenes include the covered market, the theatre, the peristyle of a Roman house, a triumphal arch and the Temple of Apollo.
