This Liebig series, Sanguinetti no. 1725, issued in 1960, explores the history of alchemy, the precursor of modern chemistry. For centuries, alchemists sought to understand the secrets of nature, transform base metals into gold and discover the legendary elixir of life.
The six cards depict The Sacred Art in Ancient Egypt, Geber and the Elixir of Life, Raymond Lull, Paracelsus, Price Exposed and Cagliostro. Together they illustrate the evolution of alchemical thought from antiquity to the eighteenth century.
