Discover a beautiful piece of Ostend’s history with this unique porcelain card, printed by Daveluy, the royal lithographer from Bruges. At the center of the card is an elegant cartouche bearing the text “Marchand de Charbons, Rue Archiducesse 23, Ostende”, arranged over three lines, indicating a coal merchant established at this address.
Above the cartouche appears the name “L. Van den Abeele-Ronon” in decorative lettering, giving the card a personal touch. On either side of the cartouche are fine illustrations: on one side a scale, and on the other figures loading sacks onto a horse and cart, illustrating the activity of the trade.
On the right-hand side of the card, a caduceus is also visible, the classical symbol of trade and commerce. The card is printed in a harmonious combination of blue, gold and grey, giving it a refined and striking appearance.
The card measures approximately 14.3 x 10.8 cm and is in very good condition. We recommend carefully reviewing the photos before purchase to fully appreciate this remarkable piece.
