It usually takes place in the days or weeks leading up to the Christian Lent, which starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. It's a period of exuberant celebrations, costume parties, parades, music, and dancing. This edition in the series of Liebig prints showcases this exuberance during the carnival in Rome around the turn of the 1900s, with a nod to ancient antiquity. The festive atmosphere is further emphasized by the cards' finishing touch with a golden border.
